Bloody clashes between two suspected rival cult groups, Eiye and Aiye confraternities, have thrown the ancient town of Shagamu, the headquarters of Shagamu Local Government Area, Ogun State into crisis as reports indicate that three lives have been lost as the two deadly groups fight for supremacy.

The incident started on Tuesday and has spread to Friday,  leaving three persons dead while residents scampered for safety.

Reports indicate that all commercial activities have been paralysed in some parts of the town.

It was further gathered that several other persons sustained injuries in the attack, forcing residents of the area to stay indoors.

A resident who pleaded anonymity said that one of the victims, an attendant at Awabat filling station in Ijokun, was shot dead on Friday night.

The resident said that the deceased, simply identified as Matey, was shot in the head by the hoodlums.

The source said, “We don’t know if he was a cultist, we don’t know what happened. We just saw that he was shot dead by cultists.

“He’s a petrol attendant at Awabat in Ijokun.”

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

Oyeyemi said three persons were killed in the incident.

He, however,  disclosed that many of the cultists have been arrested by the police.

“Yes, three persons were killed in Shagamu by cultists. But we have arrested many of them.

” The Commissioner of Police has directed our tactical teams to be on standby.

“We have started trailing those involved and many are in custody. We are clamping them down, more will still be arrested,” Oyeyemi said.
