KPMG appoints former statistician general, Yemi Kale as partner

The former Statistician General and CEO of the National Bureau of Statistics of Nigeria, Dr. Oyeyemi Kale has joined global consulting firm, KPMG as a Partner and Chief Economist of the Nigerian office.

This was disclosed by KPMG on its verified Twitter handle, @KPMG_NG on Thursday.

According to the release, as the chief economist of the group, “Yemi will lead the Firm’s view on macroeconomics and enhance the breadth of our solutions involving economic modelling & macroeconomic analysis, in private and public sector clients.”

The new chief economist holds a first class B.Sc. Honours degree in Economics from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, and an M.Sc. (distinction) and Ph.D. also in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

He was the statistician general of the National Bureau of Statistics of Nigeria from Aughust 2011 to 2021. Under his leadership, the GDP of Nigeria was recalculated and Nigeria emerged country with the largest GDP in Africa. He was the first CEO of the agency to serve for two terms.

Before his role at NBS, he was a special adviser to the Nigerian minister of finance and national planning as well as the group head of research and strategy at Investment Banking and Trust Company, now Stanbic IBTC Bank.

He has deep experience, gained from both the private and public sector, in macroeconomic analysis, financial, economic and investment research and fiscal and macroeconomic policy advisory.
