A Nigerian at Real Madrid: ‘Lion on the pitch, mouse off it’

Must read

The debut of Marvin Olawale Akinlabi Park this weekend represents a landmark for Nigerian players at the pinnacle of European football

Marvin Olawale Akinlabi Park is one of the major talking points on this week’s African Football HQ podcast, as his route to the top as a major topic for discussion.

The Nigerian-Korean wonderkid made his debut for Real Madrid at the weekend, making a late cameo against Real Sociedad as the reigning La Liga champions sought to take all three points in top flight action.

The 20-year-old caught the eye of observers with his pace against Sociedad, but his route to the top also makes for fascinating reading, with the starlet taking the unlikely route from the island of Mallorca to Merseysiders Tranmere Rovers.

Marvin was born in Spain in the year 2000 to a Nigerian father and a South Korean mother. He represented Spain Under 19 once in a friendly 3–0 loss against Italian Under 19team on 16 January 2019
