
First Bank of Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of First HoldCo Plc, has announced the appointment of Dr. Julius B. Omodayo-Owotuga as Executive Director, in a move aimed at reinforcing its senior leadership bench and deepening capacity across finance, risk management, governance, and enterprise transformation.
Dr. Omodayo-Owotuga brings over 24 years of cross-sector experience spanning banking and financial services, infrastructure finance, power, oil and gas, as well as audit and consulting. His elevation underscores the bank’s focus on strengthening governance frameworks, enhancing execution discipline, and sustaining long-term growth.
Before his appointment, he served as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of First HoldCo Plc from 2021 to 2026.
He most recently held the position of Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Geregu Power Plc, Nigeria’s first listed power generation company, where he played a central role in institutional transformation, governance strengthening, capital market positioning, and operational optimisation. He was also instrumental in key financing initiatives, including the company’s landmark listing on the Nigerian Exchange.
Earlier, he served as Group Executive Director, Finance and Risk Management at Forte Oil Plc (now Ardova Plc), where he led major restructuring efforts, capital raising programmes, treasury optimisation, and enterprise risk management initiatives that enhanced shareholder value and operational efficiency.
His career trajectory also includes roles at Africa Finance Corporation, Standard Chartered Bank, KPMG Professional Services, and MBC International Bank (now First Bank of Nigeria Limited), equipping him with deep expertise in institutional finance, treasury operations, regulatory engagement, and corporate advisory.
Dr. Omodayo-Owotuga is a CFA Charterholder and a KPMG-trained accountant. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), and the Institute of Credit Administration. He is also a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD) Nigeria and a Certified Management Accountant.
He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration, a Master of Business Administration, and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He is an alumnus of Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, IE Business School, Geneva Business School, and the University of Lagos.
Widely regarded for his expertise in strategic finance, governance, and capital markets, Dr. Omodayo-Owotuga is noted for driving institutional growth and transformation within complex regulatory environments.
He is married with children and enjoys tennis, mentoring professionals, and watching football.
