Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has detailed documents and electronic devices recovered during a search of the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

At proceedings before the Federal Capital Territory High Court on Monday, the anti-graft agency disclosed that its operatives searched in conjunction with officers of the Nigeria Police Force. The operation was witnessed by El-Rufai’s wife, Hadiza, and his son, Mohammed, according to the commission.

The disclosures came as the ICPC urged the court to dismiss a ₦1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by the former governor. El-Rufai alleges that he was unlawfully arrested and detained, and that his residence was searched without legal basis.

However, the commission maintains that its officers acted pursuant to a valid search warrant issued on February 18 and executed on February 19 between 1:37 p.m. and 3:56 p.m. at 12 Mambilla Street, Asokoro, Abuja.

According to the ICPC, items recovered during the search include investor account statements and asset declaration forms, business registration certificates and corporate compliance records, Client Know-Your-Customer (KYC) documentation, and Documents relating to the African Democratic Congress welfare secretary.

Other items recovered include records of loans approved by the Kaduna State House of Assembly between 2015 and 2023, Interim investigation reports involving El-Rufai and his associates, Ecobank Nigeria Plc share certificates, land documents, valuation reports, deeds of assignment, and irrevocable Powers of Attorney, Afri-Venture Capital Company documents, payment mandates, and media/publicity materials from the former governor’s office

Electronic Devices Seized

The commission further told the court that several digital storage and communication devices were recovered, including: Nine flash drives and one memory card, seven hard drives, multiple laptops, including Apple MacBook Pro and Elumac Book Pro models, mobile phones, including Blackberry, Nokia N95, Toshiba, Samsung IDEOS, and Google IDEOS devices, eighteen additional electronic devices, a reMarkable tablet and related chargers

The ICPC stated that all recovered materials were catalogued, sealed, and secured for forensic examination.

The court is expected to determine whether the commission’s actions complied with due process and whether the former governor’s claims of rights violations are sustainable.
