Gridlock as students block Lagos airport over ASUU strike

Must read

Less than two weeks after blocking the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, university undergraduate students, under the umbrella of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), again mounted a road blockage along the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Ikeja in Lagos.

The students are protesting the lingering face-off between the federal government and university teachers’ body, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. Since the strike started in February 14, academic activities in most owned schools have been grounded.

In now-viral videos, the protesters, in their hundreds, are seen calling on the federal government to meet the demands of ASUU to enable them to return to school.

They also displayed placards with various inscriptions, while chanting solidarity songs.

Security officials were deployed to the premises to maintain order.
