Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Tuesday fired his Commissioner for Environment, Dr Igbiks Tamuno for undisclosed reasons.
The dismissal of the doctor of Epidemiology was contained in a terse statement by his Special Assistant, Media, Kelvin Ebiri.
The statement directed the sacked commissioner to submit the government’s documents and properties in his possession to the Permanent Secretary in the ministry.
Although the statement was silent on the reason for his dismissal, Fedredsnews gathered that the state government has, of late, been facing a lot of criticisms over its shoddy handling of polluted environment of late.
One of such is the issue of black soot that medical experts continually warn that the polluted atmosphere is cancerous.
Sources said the Mr Tamuno was actually hosting a Press Briefing on “Soot and Air Quality in Rivers State” when the news of his dismissal got to him.
“He was holding a media event at his ministry but suddenly he stood up and left the venue. We were wondering why he left in that that until we discovered that he had been sacked,” a source said.
