#OndoDecides2020: ‘You are lucky to have me and my wife at the helm of affairs, Gov. Akeredolu

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in next Saturday’s governorship election, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Wednesday said on a live television debate that Ondo State is lucky to have him and his wife, Betty at the helm of affairs of the state.

The governor said this during a political debate between him and his main challenger, Eyitayo Jegede, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC. The debate was organised by Channels Television and anchored by Political Correspondent, Seun Okinbaloye.

The anchor had asked Governor Akeredolu to respond to criticisms of his style of governance, particularly allegation that his wife and children are directly involved in execution of contracts and influencing who gets what in the state.

While not explicitly denying or affirming this allegation, Akeredolu said what the people of Ondo State are getting is a “price of two for one”.

He asked rhetorically, “Is it my fault that the state has an intelligent governor and an equally intelligent first lady? What the state is getting is a price of two for one”, he said.

It would be recalled that the governor has been severely criticised for involving his immediate family in the direct administration of the state, especially in the areas of contract execution and influencing those that are considered for contracts and appointments.

The Managing Director of a construction firm who prefers to be anonymous told Fedredsnews how a contract that was earlier awarded to him was cancelled and re-awarded to a popular Supermarket owner in Akure who is believed to be close to the wife of the governor.
