For President Muhammadu Buhari, rewards for teachers should be here on earth and not in heaven, as it is often said. To demonstrate his seriousness about improving the welfare of teachers, the president has approved a special salary scale for teachers. Not only that, he also approved an increase in the years of their service from 35 to 40 years, thus ensuring that best brains are retained in the profession for longer period of service.
The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, announced this on Monday in a speech he read while representing the President at the celebration of the 2020 World Teachers Day in Abuja on Monday.
The 2020 theme of the World Teachers’ Day is Teachers: Leading in Crisis, Reimagining the Future.
The Minister said the implementation of the new salary scheme is to encourage teachers in delivering better service.
