The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has finally issued an order suspending the September 1, 2020 hike in electricity tariffs for two weeks.
This was contained in a statement on its Twitter handle @NERCNG.
The statement reads: ‘For anyone who may have missed it, NERC has issued an order to the DisCos suspending the recent review in tariffs for 14 days in line with the FG’s agreement with the Labour Union.
According to the text of the order co-signed by the chairman of the commission, James Momoh and commissioner in charge of Legal, Licensing and Compliance, Dafe Akpeneye, the effective date for the suspension of the new tariff is September 28, 2020 and “shall cease to have effect in the 11th October, 2020.
