Emerging unscathed from a petition that nearly ruined his reputation and cost him re-election, the newly re-elected president of African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina today prayed to God to grant him wisdom to pilot the affairs of the foremost financial institution.

Adesina said this on his verified Tweeter handle @akin_adesina, where he wrote:

“God, as i start my second term as President of the African Development Bank, i humble myself before you. I ask that you will grant me wisdom and that Africa will thrive and prosper. Make Africa shine”

Yet in another tweet, he thanked those who stood by him and supported him: “Today, i was sworn in for my second 5-year term as President of the African Development Bank. I just wanted to say a VERY BIG “Thank you” to all of you for your extraordinary support, prayers and good wishes. May God bless each and everyone of you!”

Meanwhile, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed has joined the throng of eminent personalities to congratulate the newly sworn in AfDB president, Akinwumi Adesina.

In a message on her Tweeter handle, she wrote:

“I join the #Africa and global community to congratulate my brother and colleague, Dr. @Akin_adesina on his re-election and swearing-in as President of the @Afdb_Group.

We look forward to strengthening our partnership in Africa to achieve Agenda 2063 (@_AfricaUnion) and 2030 (@UN)”.
