The Rotary Club of Asokoro, District 9125, under the presidency of Rotarian Felix Akinseye, on Saturday, put smiles on the faces of residents of Pasali in Kuje Area Council of the FCT, Abuja as food items worth N500,000 were donated to the community.

The donation is part of their contribution to cushion the effect of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on the most vulnerable in the society.

Food items distributed include a five-kilogram bag of rice, beans, branded vegetable oil, red oil among other items.

About 140 families benefitted from the donation.

In addition to the food items, the club also refurbished the borehole in the community and donated a brand new generating set to aid the pumping of the water.

The refurbished motorized borehole was donated by the club in 2015 to enable them to have access to potable water in place of a small pond they shared with cattle in the area.

Rotarian Felix Akinseye said: “based on our need assessment, we have considered the increasing hardship of our adopted community and have identified water and food as their main problem.

“We have decided to provide food for 140 families in Pasali community as part of our palliatives in this period of COVID-19”, he said while urging the residents of the community to adhere to the safety protocols as advised by the health authorities, particularly washing of hands with soap and use of face masks in public places.

“In making sure that they maintain a good sanitary condition and equally meet up with the increasing need for handwashing to further prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have refurbished the borehole we donated in 2015 and also provided them with a new generator to facilitate the regular supply of water in the community,” the President said.
