Seriake Dickson: Obi and I offered Aisha Yesufu reps ticket, but she rejected it

Seriake Dickson, national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has said that Peter Obi and the party leadership offered activist Aisha Yesufu a ticket to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives, but she declined.

Dickson made this known on Thursday during a media conference while addressing concerns over candidate selection and internal disagreements within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Bayelsa State governor stated that the public was not aware of several efforts made by the party to accommodate key figures, including Yesufu, a prominent activist and supporter of Obi.

“Do you know that Peter Obi and I offered Aisha a House of Representatives ticket? The public is not aware,” Dickson said. “She turned it down. A seat many people are contesting for, she declined.”

He did not specify when the offer was made but indicated it formed part of broader discussions on the allocation of elective positions within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). His remarks come amid reports of internal disagreements within the NDC over the conduct of primaries and the distribution of party tickets.

Yesufu, a former convener of the #BringBackOurGirls movement and a prominent voice in the Obidient movement, had earlier indicated interest in contesting for the FCT senatorial seat after joining the NDC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

She announced her intention on May 6, citing her leadership experience in the ADC as a motivating factor. However, less than a month later, she withdrew from the race following reports that the party had ceded the FCT senatorial ticket to another aspirant, Amanda Pam, who had been a member of the party before Yesufu’s defection.
