Abiodun Anoints ‘Yayi’ as Ogun APC’s 2027 Governorship Flagbearer

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has effectively set the tone for the 2027 governorship race, declaring Senator Solomon Adeola—popularly known as Yayi—as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The announcement came on Monday during a high-level caucus meeting of party leaders and stakeholders, where behind-the-scenes calculations over succession planning gave way to a decisive public endorsement. In a now-circulating video clip from the gathering, Abiodun left little room for ambiguity.

“But first, we’ve decided who is deserving as the next flag bearer of our dear state,” the governor declared.

Moments later, Adeola rose to his feet to a thunderous reception. The room erupted—chants rang out, music blared, and party faithful signaled their approval in a vivid show of unity and momentum.

Abiodun framed the decision as part of a broader strategy to preserve continuity and stability within the party, pointing to past leadership transitions and urging members to rally behind a candidate capable of sustaining the APC’s grip on power in Ogun State.

The meeting, which drew influential figures across the party structure, is already being seen as a defining moment in the run-up to 2027. Political observers note that such an early endorsement could significantly reshape the race—discouraging rival aspirants while consolidating support around Adeola.

A seasoned lawmaker currently representing Ogun West in the Senate, Adeola has long been a formidable presence in the state’s political landscape. With this endorsement, his path to the governorship—at least within party ranks—appears clearer than ever.

Before his election to the Senate to represent Ogun West, Solomon Adeola built a long career in both the private sector and legislative politics.

A trained accountant, Adeola worked in finance and auditing, including stints with major firms such as The Guardian and Odua Investment Company Limited, where he developed expertise in public finance and corporate management.

He first gained prominence in politics in Lagos State, where he served as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2011. During his time in the Assembly, he rose to become Chairman of the influential House Committee on Public Accounts, earning a reputation for his oversight of government spending and fiscal discipline.

Adeola later moved to the national stage, representing Lagos West Senatorial District in the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2019. As Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, he played a key role in scrutinizing federal expenditures and advocating transparency in government finances.

His transition to representing Ogun West in the Senate marked a significant political shift back to his home state, where he has since remained a central figure in Ogun politics.
