Breaking: Former Abia governor and Buhari’s minister, Ogbonnaya Onu is dead

A former minister of science and technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu is dead.

He was 72 years old at the time of his death.

Sources said the late Onu, who was the first civilian governor of Abia State succumbed to death on Thursday after more than three weeks medical treatment at an Abuja hospital.

Born December 1951, in Amata, Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of then Eastern region, he started his education at Izzi High School in Abakaliki, now the Ebonyi State capital where he passes out with grade One in his West African School Certificate Examination.

He thereafter enrolled for the High School Examination (HSE) at the College of Immaculate Conception (C.I.C) Enugu graduating as the overall best student. He later proceeded to the University of Lagos and graduated with a first class degree in Chemical Engineering in 1976. He went for his doctoral studies at the University of California, Berkeley where he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in chemical engineering in 1980.
