Former US First Lady, Rosalynn Carter dies at 96

Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has sadly passed away at the age of 96 two days after entering hospice care.

Rosalynn Carter, the wife of former US President Jimmy Carter, passed away, according to the Carter Center.

She had suffered from dementia at the end of her life and had entered hospice care on Friday. She died Sunday at her home in Plains, GA.

She survived by her children, including Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy, and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She also had a grandson who died in 2015.

Carter’s passing came at 2:10pm after the Carter Center announced that she’d been diagnosed with dementia. The family released a statement on May 30, 2023. “The Carter family is sharing that former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has dementia. She continues to live happily at home with her husband, enjoying spring in Plains and visits with loved ones,” they said.
