Gunmen attack Anambra police checkpoint, many feared dead

Reports from Ihiala local government of Anambra state indicate that some unidentified gunmen attacked a police checkpoint around 10.45am on Tuesday. The incident happened between Ihiala-Uli axis of the state.

Although Fedredsnews could not independently confirm the number of casualties, but eyewitness account say that the incident forced commuters to run for their lives as the gunmen shot non-stop, leading to security operatives removing their uniforms and taking cover in nearby bushes and houses.

Commercial bus operators also abandoned the Onitsha- Owerri expressway as of the time of filing this report for fear of being killed.

A source at the State’s Police command said:” I’ve not heard of any death but I can tell you there were casualties during the gun battle”

The source added Police Commissioner Echeng Echeng has despatched special squad to Ihiala to quell the situation.
