Attacks: FG deploys soldiers in Imo State

Must read

The Federal Government, on Thursday, deployed men and assets of the Nigerian Army in Owerri, Imo State as a confidence-building strategy for residents whose peace of mind had been ruptured by attacks on public infrastructure in the past few days by attackers, identified by the Nigeria Police as men of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN)

Fedredsnews had earlier reported that some unknown attackers on Monday attacked Owerri Correctional Center and the Imo State Police Command headquarters. They also attacked a military base at Ukwuorji on the Owerri-Onitsha expressway, burnt a soldier in a car and razed four military operational vehicles.

The source told the media, “The operation show of force is a military exercise targeted at restoring the confidence of the people in the security agencies. It is also a way of raising the morale of the operatives after Monday’s deadly attacks. It is a reassurance that the security agents have the capacity and capability to enforce public order and decorum.”

At the time of filing this report, there was a heavy presence of military men, armed to the teeth, along Orlu-Owerri Road, Owerri-Onitsha expressway and Owerri-Okigwe Road.

Also, high presence of military men also patrolled the metropolis as fear continued to pervade the atmosphere.
