Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara returned to Port Harcourt on Friday to resume his official duties, drawing a rousing reception from supporters.
His flight landed at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, at 12:11 p.m., accompanied by Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu and his former Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie.
Ahead of his arrival, a Government House convoy with heavy security presence had already taken position at the airport. Supporters began trooping in as early as 6 a.m., waving banners and chanting solidarity songs.
Wearing dark sunglasses, Fubara was greeted by a roll call of political allies, including former Information Commissioner Emma Okah, ex-Health Commissioner Adaeze Oreh, former Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands Oji Ngofa, ex-Environment Commissioner Sydney Gbara, and Victor Oko-Jumbo, a past factional Speaker of the State House of Assembly.
The governor’s return comes a day after President Bola Tinubu lifted the state of emergency imposed on Rivers State in March.
