A pregnant woman, Mrs. Mary Jesulayomi, has been abducted after armed men attacked Ayede Community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The attack occurred on Tuesday evening at about 7:00 p.m., near the Federal Secretariat complex in Akure. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants invaded the area and fired gunshots indiscriminately, throwing residents into panic.
A community member, Pa Ogunleye Mese, who spoke in a video recording, said the gunmen targeted his residence. He explained that although he and his wife narrowly escaped being taken, a pregnant woman who was at their shop at the time was abducted by the attackers.
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the incident. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, the abducted woman was identified as Mrs. Mary Jesulayomi. He added that an 85-year-old woman was also briefly abducted but was later released, while her husband, Pa Ogunleye Mese, sustained injuries during the attack.
Jimoh stated that tactical police teams have been deployed to the area and that efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted woman and apprehend the perpetrators.
