The Ogun State Government has shut down five Chinese-owned companies along the Ogere axis of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway after their workers allegedly assaulted law enforcement officers and state officials enforcing environmental regulations.
The sealed companies — DL Plastics Ltd, Dyschenghan Plastics, SH Agricultural Ltd, Beautiful Fibre Ltd, and Jincaicai Nigeria Ltd — were accused of improper waste disposal and refusing to use government-accredited waste collectors despite repeated warnings.
Hon. Abayomi Hunye, Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Managing Director of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), said the clampdown followed six months of ignored letters, invitations, and site visits.
“We sent letters, invited them, and even pasted seal notices on their gates for three months. They still refused to comply,” Hunye said. “When our officials finally went to enforce the order with law enforcement officers, the companies’ workers attacked them, inflicting injuries serious enough to require hospital treatment.”
Hunye said the state will prosecute those responsible for the assaults and vowed that Ogun will no longer tolerate companies treating the environment — or its officials — with contempt.
“These firms have made themselves an environmental menace. They must face the consequences of their actions,” he declared.
