The National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday evening appointed Alhaji Ali Bukar Dalori as the new Acting National Chairman in accordance with the constitution of the party. His emergence follows the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who resigned from the position of chairman earlier on the same Friday, June 27, 2025.
Dalori previously served as the APC’s Deputy National Chairman (North). He is expected to steer the affairs of the ruling party in an acting capacity until a substantive national chairman is elected.
The announcement was made shortly after a closed-door meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, where members unanimously endorsed Dalori to take over the leadership role.
Dr. Ganduje’s resignation, although officially linked to health reasons, comes amid growing internal pressure from key stakeholders in the party. There have been persistent calls—particularly from the North-Central zone—demanding that the position be returned to the region, in line with the party’s zoning arrangement.
Dalori, a seasoned politician from Borno State and close ally of President Bola Tinubu, is widely regarded as a stabilizing figure within the party. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to maintain unity within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A national convention is expected to hold in December 2025, during which a substantive national chairman will be elected.
